From ancient emperors with male lovers to the modern reclamation of the term TONGZHI (“comrade”), the exhibition reveals how queer identities have been both celebrated and suppressed across time. Drawing on Foucault’s idea of “friendship as a way of life,” the selected artists create a powerful portrait of queer solidarity, intimacy, and resistance, past and present.
