The Sydney Gay Art Group is invited to join the artist for a viewing and conversation featuring new works from the recent exhibition New Old School at Maitland Regional Art Gallery. Co-curated by Luke Thurgate, the exhibition explored contemporary painters who treat art history as a living companion rather than a distant legacy.

Thurgate’s practice sits comfortably within this dialogue, drawing on the visual language of Renaissance and Baroque art-making while conflating the look, feel, and material sensibility of these periods with ideas of excess and monstrosity.
