The Sydney Gay Art Group are invited to attend a new exhibition by Carol Gill and Reherring (Mark Wilson). Convergence brings together their work revealing a shared interest in place, materiality and personal experience.
Carol Gill develops layered works from sketches made en plein air, combining collage, gouache, watercolour and handmade papers. Drawing on her background in graphic design and an enduring interest in making, her work responds to the natural environment through colour, texture and carefully constructed surfaces.
Working across painting, printmaking and ceramics, Redherring combines traditional and contemporary processes to explore personal experience through a range of materials. Drawing on nostalgia, popular culture and queer lived experience, his practice brings together painting, print, typography and ceramic sculpture to examine the relationship between personal history and contemporary culture.
